Have you received an email about a group chat being made for your class? Chances are you have. If you haven't joined one of these chats maybe it's time to consider joining it ASAP. These group chats are often made by a student in regards to a class that you are both enrolled in. These chats are so helpful. Some professors take forever to reply to emails, and others don't reply at all. In my experience last minute questions are replied to in an instant on these group chats.
Missed a class? Don't worry someone will definitely help you with some notes or review of what you missed.
Other times a student will have a PDF of the book you might need and share it for FREE. $$$
Need help with studying? So do most of the students in your class and the group chat is a perfect way to get a study group going.
Other times you may not be sure of when the date to an assignment, quiz, or test is due and this group chat may save your grade.
My point is there are so many benefits of joining these group chats BUT, there are some Cons as well.
Like all things, these chats DO come with consequences. So beware... There have been instances where the prof/school has figured out that there is a chat and in some cases students have been punished but, only when there is proof of CHEATING. It is so important to keep the chat clean of anything that may hurt your collegiate career. If you see something wrong, or feel like something is not right, LEAVE THE CHAT. You never want to be held responsible of something that you did not do.
I've also heard of cases where a college/university or classes that don't make group chats. If you are experiencing this, START THE CHAT YOURSELF. It is so easy.
Step 1: Download Whatsapp
Step 2: Make a friend in class and get their contact number!
Step 3: Make the groupchat
Step 4: Copy the link to the group chat
Step 5: Log in to your Blackboard or Canvas acc and send it only to your class (make sure your professor isn't linked to the message)
And that is how you start a group chat.
Make sure to establish your rules and don't be afraid to remove people that are not following the chat rules. You never want to get in trouble for a group chat that is supposed to benefit you and your studies.
Goodluck!
