Back to School

It is officially August! This summer definitely flew by quick, this means the fall semester is about to begin! Time to get everything together for a successful semester (for any high schoolers this is a fresh start at a new school year). This post will have 2 sections. One for High School and one for College.

For my high school readers, are you ready? Here’s a few things to get done before the start of your new year!

-Start your summer reading and summer assignments now if you haven’t already. You definitely want to enjoy the first week in classes without stressing about the first race of the semester.

-Make some time and write out your goals and habits for the year! Maybe you’d like to join some clubs or sports, It’s never too late to try something new and it’ll look great for your college apps.

-Definitely buy a planner (or wait for the school one) and figure out a schedule for yourself. Planning what days you have club meetings or practice for any sports as well as what day it is (Ex: A or B days) Is useful. Check out my time management post for more ideas on how to get organized! This way your year will be stressed free and you’ll make time for social outings.

-Find your supplies! Notebooks, pens, highlighter, flashcards, a new backpack, paper, folders. (Buy the simple things first before you know what each teacher will ask you for when classes begin). My favorite place to find supplies area at Target, they always have cute stuff.

Good luck this year and make this a great year. I believe in you guys!

For my college readers, it is almost fall semester! Whether you took summer classes or not every semester has a new beginning and here are some ways to prepare.

-Plan out a schedule! Consistency is key and it’ll be easy to get through the semester with a pattern figured out. Getting a planner is very helpful (check out my time management post for more details). This includes writing out due dates ahead of time and figuring out a work schedule as well as planning out time for your personal enjoyment!

-Check your student portal for your tuition, this means looking out for incoming book advances, FL prepaid, FAFSA, and scholarship money. Make sure you are getting everything you are expecting and plan ahead for payments to avoid being dropped out of your class. (Check out my post about refunds to see how you could be spending your refund money).

-Make sure you are enrolled in classes, and keep checking for any openings in classes that have already appeared full if you are not satisfied with the ones you already have. People are constantly changing their schedules too and might drop the one you wanted.

-If this is your first semester in college, visit your campus and find where your classes are located to avoid getting lost and being late to your first day!

-Find out what organizations you’re interested in joining if you haven’t already and find out when and how you can meet them on campus.

-If you live in dorms/off campus apartments, get ready for move in day, do you have everything you need? We often over pack and that is OK, but make a list of things you absolutely cannot leave behind and avoid packing things that you really don’t need to avoid overcrowding your dorm. If you haven’t already met your dorm mates plan a day to meet with them, get to know them and, go over living conditions (schedules on cleaning, appliances to bring, etc.)

-Write down your goals for the semester.

The start of a new year or semester is always a little stressful but, this is a new fresh start and by starting out prepared and ready to go with good habits is always helpful. Every new start may take a different approach so try to find out what works for you and don’t leave things to the last minute! IF you do get stressed take a minute to breathe, slow down and figure it out. There is always a solution and it is ok to pause and reflect (WE ARE IN NO RUSH). Good luck to all of you

-Franci
